Happy New Year! #2019

2. 1. 2019

And here we are, one year later and a whole lot wiser (or so I hope!). I think this is the first time that I actually made a recap of the entire year in terms of work, relations and time for myself. To think about what I’m proud of and where I can improve in the future and, more importantly, to stop concentrating on the negative too much (this one will step into force after the following paragraph :D). In my case, 2018 was marked with a lot of work that too often kept me away from any free time and, consequently, from taking care of myself and pursuing my favorite hobbies. Don’t get me wrong, I deeply love what I do for a living, but there is a thin line between working just right and working too much. My struggle with time is a never-ending battle. And I hate saying that I don’t have enough time for some things that only two years ago seemed so easy to do, when the real issue lies in setting the priorities. Unfortunately, our days only have 24 hours and as much as we try to stick everything in that time-frame, that just isn’t possible.

To me, the term resolution often implies ambitious goals that people only stick to for a short period of time, or maybe for a few weeks if they’re lucky. I recently stumbled upon this funny New Year wish that deeply resonates with that on the internet:

“The most fun part about making New Year’s resolutions is breaking New Year’s resolutions. Can’t wait to mess up with you.”

I think this quote nicely outlines the issue that so many of us struggle with :) For this reason, I’ll keep resolutions out of the way and set some intentions that I can work on throughout the whole year: to choose my working projects wisely, not feel guilty about taking some time off to pursue my hobbies or just unwind, be more active, really enjoy every single moment of my life and, most importantly, remain true to myself in this hectic (online) world.

Having said all of that, you can probably see that my blog has a new theme! I’ve been working on that for a few months now and this is the end result, it’s much more clear and elegant, I love it. All credit for the new logo goes to Iva from Kutak Sreće, thank you so much for helping me out! There’s still some work to be done on the previous posts, but I’ll get to that – once I find some time, haha! Alen, my beloved boyfriend and blog administrator, has yet to install a new feature – a language button! This means that from now on, my posts will be available in both of my beloved languages <3

This obviously leads to you, dear readers! Thank you for sticking with me on this platform that has been up and running for the past 5 years, I really appreciate the time you spend here. Also huge thanks to all the companies that decide to work with me and send me their products, please know that your support means the world to me.

I’ll be concluding this post with the best nine Instagram photos of 2019 and I promise to you and to myself to dedicate more time to what you and I love most: nature, healthy food, makeup&beauty and an occasional selfie ;)

Out with the old, in with the new: my you be happy the whole year through! Happy 2019, everyone!! ♥

Gluten free Christmas cookies

30. 12. 2018

I asked my boyfriend to help me out and this is what he came up with … :D

Hi, my loves! I hope you had an amazing Christmas week, I had so much fun spending some time with my family <3 And baking cookies is another thing I like doing around Christmas. Luckily I took some pictures along the way and because I really liked the end result, you can find the recipe below. If you don’t know it yet, gluten free cookies almost always taste different than the regular ones – especially if you try to make them healthy in general. Although I love how they turned out, my grandparents made it clear that they prefer the traditional version ;) As you’ll see, the recipe is really simple, so there’s no reason not to try doing them! I also added some golden flax seed flour Special that was sent to me by Lepa z naravo, an online store retailing organic and cruelty-free cosmetics, but also LCHF flours and other dietary products. This is how I made them:

500 g gluten free flour    250 g golden flax seed flour    1/2 tsp salt    2 tbsp gingerbread mixture
ground nutmeg & cinnamon    275 g butter    200 g brown sugar    2 tbsp agave sirup/honey  ♥  1 egg

Add both flours, gingerbread, spices and salt into a bowl and mix. In a separate bowl, mix together butter and sugar on low speed and after 3 minutes, add one egg. When everything comes together, add the agave sirup or honey. Then start adding the flour & spice mixture spoon by spoon. At the end, the dough still looks sticky, but don’t be discouraged! You’ll form three balls, wrap them in plastic foil and put into the freezer (or on the balcony, winter is great for baking!) for 15 minutes. Then preheat oven to 200°C.

When the dough has rested for some time, take one ball, put it on a floured surface and gently press down. Then add some more flour on top, spread it with your fingers and then start rolling until the dough has around 0.5 cm. Then you’re ready to start cutting cookies! I mostly made stars, to be in the spirit of Christmas, but also some animals. However, the moose was too large and it broke down before I managed to decorate it …

Put into the oven for 10 minutes or until they are golden brown. Then put them on a rack and when they cool down, you can decorate them as you wish. I used the Dr.Oetker sugar pen, but I was so disappointed! It was hard to get the paste out, it didn’t attach to the cookies and above all, I just don’t like the taste. If I’m honest, I’ve never had any good experiences with these sorts of tubes. I’ll have to visit a professional baking store, maybe they’ll be able to help me out!

Lookfantastic Beauty Box – December 2018

16. 12. 2018

Holidays are approaching and the December Look Fantastic Beauty Box is supposed to be all about feeling glamorous on the longest night of the year. Let’s assume that everybody is subscribed because this particular box contains very little of what could be used for the New Year’s eve! :D This is the fourth Special Edition Beauty Box and I have to admit that the content nevertheless seems very exciting. There are several full-size products inside and although I already found some favorites, there are also some items that I’m not particularly fond of. Let’s go through!

WHAT DID I LIKE?

Dr. Botanicals Pomegranate Superfood Brightening Eye Serum is the first thing that caught my eye. And for a good reason, the box is super cute! This serum is actually a blend of oils, such as Raspberry Seed, Sweet Almond, Olive, Meadowfoam (rich in antioxidants), Abyssinica Seed, and Sunflower Oil. Although I’m not particularly fond of oils, I know I should apply them more often as the final step of my evening skincare routine. Nevertheless, this thick oil nicely nourishes the skin around the eyes and makes it really soft throughout the night.

There are more than enough brow products in my collection and I was sure the Brow Pencil by Karl Lagerfeld + ModelCo would be just another thing I would try once and set aside. But I must say, I’m really impressed by how well it fills the brows, very similar to my Bobby Brown brow pencil but at half the price.

Although I don’t like testing products on my scalp, the Scalp Detox Grow Gorgeous performed nicely. This is an exfoliating pre-wash treatment with small particles that are supposed to clean your scalp of products and make hair fresh and bouncy. I din’t feel any cooling effect the description promises, but it was fun to try it out. However, because I really have a lot of hair, I had to use a fair amount of product – at least I’ll use it up soon!

Next is the This Works Deep Sleep Pillow Spray. I love pillow sprays or anything that smells of lavender that I can use to relax in the evening. My exact same small travel-sized bottle is almost empty, so this couldn’t have arrived at a better time.  :)

WHAT DO I HAVE YET TO TEST PROPERLY?

Another skincare product was Hydra Veil Primer by Illamasqua. I was really excited when I opened it up because Illamasqua has so many high-quality makeup products (their matt lipstics are incredible!), but I must say that I’m not that impressed after one use. The ingredients are nothing spectacular and my skin actually became quite oily throughout the day. I’ll have to give it another try before I decide whether I truly dislike it or not.

This Beauty Box also came with a Beauty Sponge. I usually apply foundations with a brush, and even if I feel using a sponge, my first choice will be a sponge softer to the touch. But it will come in handy at some point, that’s for sure!

To sum it up, the December Lookfantastic Beauty Box offers a bunch of interesting products that any skincare lover would enjoy. Having said that, I think this would make a perfect Christmas gift!
