New in #7 + first impressions

25. 9. 2015

IMG_0652IMG_0605

During the summer, I decided not to buy every single makeup item, but rather only those I really need (I’ve grown so much in the past few months!). Plus, I had so many barely used beauty products in my drawers that I had to use that up first. Well, autumn is here so let’s go through my latest buys!

The product I am the most thrilled about is the Inell Eau Micellaire for dry and sensitive skin. This is actually by E.Leclerc’s own brand called Marque Repère. I was eager to try this one out because it was on sale and cost only around € 1.80! My first impression is great, this micellar water can be easily compared with the Garnier’s one, it cleanses all makeup and doesn’t leave any residue on the skin whatsoever. The only thing that bothered me so far is the fact that mascara is not removed completely, I always have to work a bit more on that part. To sum it up, a great product for a very low price.

As for the hair, I got the Garnier Ultra Doux shampoo with such an incredible honey scent! But it’s nothing special, just a regular shampoo that cleanses my hair nicely. The product I’m more interested in is the Xpel Marketing’s Biotin & Collagen thickening hair oil I purchased in Müller for around € 3.5. Xpel Marketing is actually a Liverpool-based company that I’ve never heard before, but has a number of beauty ranges – and just now I realised that I already have a mask from their Argan Oil range (available in Tuš drugstores and sometimes in E.Leclerc). So, this thickening silicone hair oil contains Vitamin B7 and Collagen for stronger, healthier and fuller hair. As far as I’ve noticed it makes my hair much softer, but doesn’t provide the fullness it is promising – which is totally fine with me as my hair is thick enough just by itself. Again, a nice product for a very low price.

I think I’ve found a perfect shower gel for autumn – the scent of Afrodita’s Mystic Argan oil shower gel is so calming and somehow mysterious, this is everything I need during my morning “aromatherapy” shower session. A big like!

Next is the Balea Frisch in den Tag fluid with vitamin E and Provitamin B5. It bothers me a bit that it smells like raspberries since I’m not that into fruity scents in creams. The packaging is nevertheless gigantic. you get 50 ml for under € 4, if I’m not mistaken, and it may still be on sale in Slovene Drogerie Markt drugstores.

I finally got my hands on Essie’s Fiji!!!! I always compliment everyone who’s wearing and it was time to get my own. And I must add, I love Drogerie Markt’s 1+1 Essie deal ♥

A complete lipstick junkie as I am, you could imagine my reaction when my best friend got me a Rimmel London lipstick from her vacation!! She chose the Lasting Finish by Kate in shade RossettoThis beautiful dirty rose shade is a perfect savior on the days I don’t want to use a red lipstick and the fact that its matte formula doesn’t dry at all makes it even better!

Lip glosses are never among my first picks, but it seemed pretty absurd not to get at least one of the Essence liquid lipsticks. Since I tried the L’Oréal Infallible Mega Gloss and liked it, but not so much as to spend €10 on it, I went for the Essence liquid lipstick in shade make a statement 06 which is slightly thicker than L’Oréal’s. The picture above doesn’t do it justice, the packaging is a bit more violet, whereas the lipstick itself comes out somewhere between red and pink on my lips. A real bargain for € 2.79!

♦ And now to completely random items (and a completely broken summer promise)! I’ve seen bloggers raving about makeup sponges for months, so I decided to finally give in and try this squishy pink one. I bought it in Müller for € 2.49 and haven’t tried it yet, but I will keep you posted about how I like it! The second completely unplanned thing is the Balea roll-on lip oil that reminded me so much of roll-on lip glosses from my childhood I had to get one. It has a strong coconut scent which I’m not fond of, and it wears out pretty quickly.

On another note, today is World Dream Day! Its message is to be more aware of our dreams and help us as well as others to make them happen, because we all have the possibility to achieve our full potential and transform the world one dream at a time. Lots of love to you all!

How I became obsessed with UV gel nail polish …

15. 9. 2015

Okay, let’s finally talk about UV light and gel nail polish. I’m a big sceptic when it comes not-too-natural techniques in beauty (well, foundations are far from natural, but you probably understand my point) and UV lights are no exception. However, my schedule was so hectic in the spring that I just couldn’t bear the thought of doing my nails every other day (and being without any nail polish just doesn’t do the trick for me, excusez-moi!). My natural reaction to such thoughts are impulsive purchases and this is exactly what happened – I saw that Lidl would be retailing UV lights the next day and I kindly asked my sister (or rather told her to run there first thing in the morning) to get one for me.

It was only after the purchase that I started thinking about what potential harmful side-effects can be and so on and so forth. Let me just say that I wasn’t that impressed with what I read (and what I saw, some allergy pictures are just horrifying), but there were some research studies which indicated that the use of UV light is not that harmful at all if not used all the time – and you can always use a sunscreen with a high SPF on your hands before starting the process, just in case. I WAS SOLD!! I immediately went to DM and decided to try Depend GelLack products. I currently have a base coat and topcoat along with three different shades, a gorgeous red Ferrari Red G036, a more violet shade in Raspberry Red G005, and a white one in shade French White G031.

It is probably needless to say that I love it so far. This technique has saved me so much time and I don’t love to use it just on my hands, but also on my toes! As I said, I tried the Depend GelLack products, which are supposed to last up to three weeks. In my experience, it lasts up to 5 or 6 days – but my nails are insanely brittle, so I suppose that up to a week is still a good job. I also got one gel nail polish from SensatioNail in pinky shade love bite and this one is much better, it holds on for about a week, but is quite expensive – SensatioNail nail polish retails at around    € 18 per bottle in Müller whereas GelLack retails at around € 5 in DM. The only thing that bothers me is that the removing process is quite damaging for the nail – the upper part of the nails gets very dry so I use a lot of nail oils and creams after I remove the nail polish and it works just fine.

All in all, the use of gel nail polish is a great choice for special occasions or when you wouldn’t find time for doing nails several times a week. Nonetheless, I would not recommend it using it every single time as soaking the nails in acetone will make the nails very brittle and one can also increase the possibility of skin cancer (and we don’t want that!). Well, these are just my thoughts, but I would love to hear some of your experience!

Rimmel London – Rita Ora, Go Wild-er-ness

4. 9. 2015

IMG_9766

This is the first regular polish I’ve been loving since my UV-light nail polish obsession. Rimmel London‘s products never disappoint me and this one is no exception. I chose a violet shade called Go Wild-er-ness from the Rita Ora 60 Seconds Super Shine collection. It dries really quickly and its improved chip-resistant formula may be really working – I applied three layers and it didn’t chip for four days!

Empties #4

16. 8. 2015

IMG_8522

IMG_8533

This is only my fourth empties post, but worry not – I’ve used much more over the months, haha! I actually completely forgot about saving the products, I probably finished six shampoos and conditioners since then, I go through them like candy. In general, hair products are on my everyday to-do list, just like foundations and other absolutely necessary products I slather on my face. As I have mentioned countless times before, Batiste dry shampoos are constantly saving my life. Their formula is the best I’ve tried so far and there is no visible stain after the use. Plus, they started selling it at Müller (at least in Ljubljana), if I’m not mistaken, and have three formulas, one for blondes and two for brunettes – it is not much, but it is definitely better than nothing!  I’ve already repurchased it ♥

I got the Maybelline Superstay Better Skin foundation in shade Sand 30 for Christmas and it was way too dark for me at the time. However, I tried it again in spring and it surprisingly matched my skin tone! This is a great foundation for its price, it is very buildable and has a high coverage. The only negative side is the fact that a lot of product is left in the bottle and I cannot get it out! A screwdriver my help with that, haha! I already ordered another bottle from Asos (and it was on sale, what a day!).

As for mascaras, I’m very picky and I rarely find a mascara that really amazes me. However, this Maybelline the Colossal Volum’ Express mascara is amazing, it lengthens my lashes like no other mascara and makes them very intense. Plus, I always recommend this one when friends ask me which one to get! I will not repurchase it right away because I have literally a ton of other mascaras I have to use up, but I will in the future!

Although I perceive Yves Rocher as a genius shower gel retailer, they obviously make wonderful fragrances as well. I’ve always had good experiences with their eaux de parfum and Tendre Jasmin is no exception. I dedicated a whole post to it last year, you can take a look here. This fragrance brings back so many memories and I’m really annoyed that there is only a spritz or two left in the bottle. Plus, this size (15 ml) is just perfect for throwing it in a bag if you’re in a hurry. I will have to buy another one soon!

I’m a huge hand cream user and I use up at least five different hand creams per year and although I generally like Mixa products, I’m not sure about this Intense Nourishment hand cream. The scent is very light and nice, but a thin film stays on the skin after the use. It is not oily, but the feeling is very peculiar. Now that I’m thinking about it, I had the same experience with one of the Neutrogena’s hand creams for very dry skin a few years ago. I don’t know, the formula for intense care may have to do something with it. Nevertheless, it is a nice product and I may buy another formula in the future.

And now we have two hair treatments that I’m not that particularly fond of. First is the L’Oréal Elseve strengthening spray which should provide easy combing, fortify the whole length of hair and shouldn’t weight hair down. Well, if I’m completely honest, this product is completely useless for my hair. I didn’t have the slightest feeling that combing was easier even if I sprayed it like mad, and the hair wasn’t any less prone to splitting after use. I don’t know, this may help those with brittle hair, but mine is very healthy and this product didn’t make any difference. I won’t repurchase it.

And the second hair product is the Alverde repair fluid, which is just fine. I usually applied it on wet hair before blow-drying it, but I cannot say it made my hair any healthier. The only plus side is that this is a bit more natural product. I still swear that plain, cold pressed argan oil is best for providing moisture and keeping hair healthy. I won’t repurchase this one either.

Oh, and I almost forgot about the best face scrub ever, the Balea peeling cream with aloe vera. This is probably my third tube, I love it! These exfoliating particles are so effective, they remove all the dry patches and make the skin really soft. I use it once or twice a week in the evening so the skin can regenerate during my sleep. I really recommend it and it is already on my buy-immediately-or-else list!

Mint … is the new black!

To be honest, my relationship with Essence nail polishes was really bad for a long time and it all started when I bought the first nail polish many, many, many years ago. Almost every new season I tried a few colors, but it always turned out to be a disaster – the polish chipped off almost immediately every time I applied it regardless of both base and top coat. However, I must say that I’m pretty impressed with the new gel edition and have a feeling they changed the formula quite a bit. Their color range is fantastic and it was difficult not to take the whole shelf home!

I chose two colors, a red on and this gorgeous minty shade play with my mint 40. I also opted for the gel top coat, just because I needed a new one and wanted to give this one a go. Two coats are obligatory with this one – I find such pastel nail polish very uneven when only one coat is applied, but two make it completely opaque. As for the longevity, this one is perfect for one day, but then starts to chip off on the edge. In that case I just add some more nail polish and prolong the nail polish for another day!

All in all, I’m pretty obsessed with this color and this may be my favorite nail shade of this summer. Have you noticed any difference in the formula of this nail polish edition or is it just me? :)

I cannot imagine summer without …

4. 8. 2015

 IMG_8424

IMG_8448

… a good old bronzer. My favorite lately has been the L’Oréal La Terra Glam Bronze. which is basically a face and body sun powder with an incredible opacity. This one is in shade Portofino-Leggero 01 and although this is the lightest shade, just one swipe is needed to create a gorgeous sun-kissed effect on the skin. I also use it for contouring as it contains a tiny bit of small shimmer. I have the darkest shade as well, Taormina-Intenso 04, which is much more intense – I’ll probably use that one during my vacation at the end of August, yay!

For me, fruity and fresh scents are obligatory in summer, whether they come in a body spray or light perfume. This is why I’ve been obsessed with Zara’s eau de toilette 590, Collins Avenue. Fragrance notes of this lovely feminine perfume are raspberry, pineapple, mango and praline; nevertheless, it is a bit more fresh than sweet. Zara’s fragrances are a must in my routine throughout the whole year, as they are very affordable and some scents are beyond amazing – this is why I spray myself all the time without any regret!

This Dior lipstick in shade 565 and Essie nail polish in shade Big Spender complement each other so well! I don’t know what’s with my pink obsession lately, but I just love using intense pinky, fuchsia shades all the time. And my skin wouldn’t be so fresh and moisturized without the L’Occitane’s Angelica Instant Hydration Mask with organic angelica water and essential oil. This is a crucial part of my face routine once a week!

Last but not least, I cannot finish my summer favorites without mentioning lavender, my synonym for summer. This is my favorite natural scent and I’ve used up so many bottles of lavender essential oil over the years that I should start doing my own (and I may try it out soon!). This lovely bouquet is my mother’s work of art, she is so crafty when it comes to flowers! I feel blessed that we can grow lots of lavender bushes around the house, every time I go by I get completely calm. And throughout the year, I drop a few drops of lavender essential oil on my pillow the night before exams or just when I feel tense. It sure helps, you should try it too!

Natura Siberica – Aralia Mandshurica Day & Night creams

30. 7. 2015

IMG_8156

Natura Siberica is a young Russian brand of organic cosmetics. I first encountered their products in Drogerie Markt when I was looking for a new organic moisturizer. Their design immediately caught my attention and as I read through the ingredients and descriptions, I realised that this is a high-quality brand for a very reasonable price (around € 11–20). As it is written on the packaging and their website, the plants used in their creams can survive the harshest weather conditions in Siberia, which is quite fascinating. And I believe they can have a much better effect on the skin than any other synthetic creams. The range of Natura Siberica’s products is very wide, all the way from skincare and bodycare to hair products. Plus, you can order their products on the Slovene site as well, the link is here!

What I also like is the fact that their packaging is wrapped in foil, which means that the products you buy at the drugstore should be intact. Furthermore, a small etiquette on the packaging describes the product, but there is also a folded description of the brand itself as well as of the product inside the box, which, in my opinion, makes the contact between the customer and the brand even more personalized. I purchased the Aralia Mandshurica Day cream and Night cream for dry skin, as I have some dry areas on my face that really disturb me. I’ve been using them both for a few months now.

IMG_8151

The day cream is very moisturizing and has SPF 20, which is actually the main reason I chose this one. I don’t really have any wrinkles on my face (yet!!), so I cannot tell you if it actually strengthens the skin, but it does make it very smooth. The one thing that I did notice is that the pigmentation marks on my face go away a lot quicker than they used to. The cream may have to do something with it, as it contains hyaluronic acid, vitamin E and many other wild harvested plants (Aralia Mandshurica thorn tree, Altai Fescue, and Arnica).

On the other hand, the night cream is very rich and is thought to provide deep regeneration as well as stimulate collagen production. The  gorgeous violet plant Hesperis Sibirica (pictures here!!) and organic oats make the skin soft and supple. The only thing that bothers me is that the night cream is the one that mattifies the skin and not the day one – I would strongly prefer this to be vice versa. Nevertheless, it doesn’t make my skin oily throughout the night like other creams do, which is a big plus.

In my opinion, the Aralia Mandshurica Day and Night creams are two lovely produtcts providing a lot of moisture as well as sun protection (day cream) and both have a very light, natural scent. I would definitely recommend them to all who like organic cosmetics or want to try something new. I defeinitely have to try their shampoos and conditioners at some point.

Have you already tried any of their products? ♥
